Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

“Take not arms upon every light occasion, let not one friend upon a word or trifle violate another but let each man zealously embrace friendship, and turn familiarity into strangeness, kindness into malice, nor love into hatred, nourish not these strange and unnatural alterations.” – George Silver, Brief Instructions Upon My Paradoxes of Defence (1605)

In order to maintain a community that we can all feel safe and thrive in: The following code must be observed.

  • Treat other fellow class members with respect at all times, regardless of their personal background or level of experience.
  • If you experience bullying or harassment of any sort please do not be afraid to inform your instructor.
  • Treat class equipment with respect.
  • Pay attention to, and perform what the instructor is teaching. If you have any questions or issues do not be afraid to ask.
  • Remember HEMA, like any other martial art is a skill, and requires time and patience to learn. Perseverance is key to success.
  • Turn up to classes on time.
  • Have fun!
